Ms El-murr travelled to Cyprus where she attended and presented at the International Conference on Gender Equality and the Law at the University of the Eastern Mediterranean. Ms El-murr presented a paper entitled ‘”Women and men’s lives are different”, “Women experience more fear”: The challenge of gender equality in the Women’s Safety Strategy Policy (2002) in Victoria, Australia’.
Ms El-murr also spent time in Cairo, Egypt volunteering as a consultant at UN Women – Egypt where she researched and wrote a report containing nine recommendations for a National Framework to Eliminate Violence against Women in Egypt. She also spent time with two grassroots non-government organisations enriching her knowledge about the challenges faced in designing effective policies to end violence against women and girls.
Ms El-murr spent the remainder of her time in Lebanon, meeting with members of a grassroots organisation to discuss women’s rights, violence against women, and other aspects of their work. She also attended a workshop run by an organisation working to promote cultural change and develop primary prevention of violence against women strategies.
