Girl Guides can help women too. With support from the Harold Mitchell Foundation, Girl Guides Queensland is providing a non-formal education program in life skills, decision making and leadership for females aged 16 and over who are socially isolated as a result of homelessness.
The program will include adventurous activities such as canoeing, abseiling and low ropes, as well as “pamper” days and other social activities.
Organisers say that the program will provide opportunities for these disadvantaged girls and young women to experience the benefits of being involved in a community organisation with peer-aged volunteers. “This program will hopefully nurture self-confidence and friendship amongst all involved.”
